In November 2002 the oil vessel Prestige sunk in front of the Galician coast. Though the ship was battered in heavy storms and suffering its bad condition the Spanish government was heavily criticised. Above all experts doubted the government decision to send the ship out into the open sea. As a consequence coasts over hundreds of miles were heavily polluted. These pictures were taken near the towns of Muxía and Cangas, considered as ‘ground zero’ of the oil disaster. By then, the ‘Prestige’ had been sunk already a month ago.
